HELLO EVERYONE! WHAT WE’RE GOING TO BE DOING OVER THE NEXT FEW WEEKS OR SO, IS POSTING ABOUT EACH OF OUR FAVORITE MOVIES OF ALL TIME (THE TOP 5 TO BE SPECIFIC/ 1 PERSON PER WEEK) AND A BIT ABOUT WHY WE LOVE THEM. WE HOPE IT’LL LET YOU LEARN MORE ABOUT ALL OF US HERE AT STICKERFRIDGE IN DOING SO. THIS WEEK IS SEAN MENARD!

Movies, to me, are mainly a vessel of entertainment. I understand that film/cinema can be high art, and I do appreciate the form, however my list isn’t gonna judge the merits of technical skill or the depth of story. These are my favorite movies, not my list of the best movies. Also, I simply don’t have the breadth of knowledge to truly judge film in such a way. This ain’t the muhfuckin Criterion Collection. My criteria is simply asking myself “Can I watch this movie hella times, and still fuck with it heavy?”.  Having said that, some of my favs are probably objectively good, and there are plenty of objectively great films that have high rewatchability that I’ll fail to mention. Who cares?? Someone else will probably mention those, so get to know me a bit through my list. Fwm y’all.

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN

Based on a true story, Leo DiCaprio plays Frank Abagnale Jr. who just does cool shit the whole time, faking his way into becoming a pilot, a doctor, a lawyer, and defrauding banks out of millions of dollars at like 18 years old. The good guy, who is also the antagonist in this case, is played by Tom Hanks. The film is also directed by Spielberg. You’ve got two all time actors with a great director, and they accordingly make a great product.

COOL RUNNINGS

Y’all already know good and well what Cool Runnings is about. Based on a true story as well, Jamaica sends a bobsled team to the 1988 Winter Olympic Games. It’s just fun as hell, highly quotable, and has plenty of heart. It stars people with some all time great names: Malik Yoba, Doug E. Doug, and my man Leon. That’s right a dude who’s last name is his first name and another dude who doesn’t even have a last name, no wonder this is a GOAT level movie.

Check out how flame this poster is

I watch this movie at least once a year, and it’s always great.

ETERNAL SUNSHINE OF THE SPOTLESS MIND

Eternal sunshine tells the story of two lovers who decide to erase each other from their memories after their relationship disintegrates. That concept seems simple enough, but the ideas of love and memory are explored in such great ways. This is an objectively good film, it won an Oscar for best original screenplay, the music is great, the visuals are great, and the acting is great. Kate Winslet was nominated for best actress, and as someone who never understood the appeal of Jim Carrey’s comedy style, his serious acting is a revelation. Michel Gondry as director also delivers in his adaptation of Charlie Kaufman’s script. Gondry, Spike Jonze, David Fincher, and Paul Thomas Anderson are all great directors who honed skills making music videos early in their careers. Another factor bolstering my love of the movie is that the film serves as an inspiration for multiple songs from Circa Survive’s debut album Juturna.

ZOOLANDER

I’m the only person I know who absolutely loves Zoolander, but then again it’s not a sentiment I’ve ever really expressed to others. It is not an objectively good movie, but it’s one of my favorite comedies ever. So many quotable and referenceable scenes. Golden cameos everywhere. The soundtrack and the use of the songs in the movie are iconic in my opinion. If you watch this and don’t enjoy yourself, then idk, we just ain’t the same.

THE LION KING

Another true story, this one about a young lion prince tricked into exile by his evil uncle, only to return and save his kingdom. Not a lot to say about this one, I think we can all agree it’s a great movie. You combine Shakespeare’s Hamlet retold in an expertly animated film with some fire ass songs, and guess what happens? True classic. Probably one of my first favorite movies, and it holds up indefinitely.

HONORABLE MENTIONS

  • A Clockwork Orange
  • Tropic Thunder
  • The Replacements
  • Donnie Darko
  • Hot Rod
  • Inception
  • The Fountain
  • Black Dynamite

…. there’s a lot of good ass movies out there, and I’m not really a movie guy like a lot of my friends, or shit maybe I am, but in a very different way ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
