Hello readers! It’s been quite some time since I’ve written anything, but since Valentine’s Day is coming up, ya girl is inspired! I just recently went through my first disappointment of 2019, so I’ve been in my feelings lately – just really going through it. It doesn’t help that it all happened the week before Valentine’s Day and while I’m PMSing. Since I was just hit with a dump truck of emotions all at once, you guys get to enjoy some music I’ve been jamming lately!

1. Hopeless Romantic – Meghan Trainor

This is the song that inspired me to create this playlist. One night before going to bed, I got into a deep hole of instagram videos. After spending what felt like hours of stalking Meghan Trainor’s love life, I came across a video her husband (Mr. Spy Kid himself, Daryl Sabara) posted of him proposing to her. He added this song to the video, and I started crying at how beautiful it all was. Their relationship is real relationship goals, and I know that one day I’ll find my own Daryl.

“I’m just a hopeless romantic
not giving up, no
because I deserve to find my own
I can feel it in my bones
yes, I know you’re somewhere close, giving me hope.”

2. Solo – The Story So Far

This is one of my top songs of all time! It’ll always instantly put me in a better mood, so that’s why I chose to add it.
This one became a favorite when I was previously going through it and I would scream-sing this alone in my car to help feel better.

“I feel indigo, you’ve got what I need
I’m indigo, you’ve got what I need
You’re not what I need”

3. So Bad – Emarosa

The song is just a fucking bop! I originally planned “Get Back Up” to be on the list, but then when the new album dropped, I knew “So Bad” needed to replace it. The song instantly puts me in a better mood! You can’t help but dance and scream-sing along when you hear it!

“If the feeling’s not forever
You and I can stop
Heaven knows I’ll do it again
And I can’t stop missing you so bad
I don’t wanna say goodbye”

4. With You – Tyler Shaw

I came across this song when I was going through instagram, and one of the people I follow posted a engagement video with this song playing. This is one of those songs that you put on just to stare at yourself in the mirror and cry. It gives me hope that something better is coming in the future. That acoustic guitar throughout the song makes me feel like he’s singing it to just me.

Two hearts on a cold street
I know this sounds crazy
But this could be fate
And I’m thinking maybe
That you feel it too”

5. 1+1 – Beyonce

There are so many great Beyonce songs that could’ve made this list (i.e. Me, Myself, and I or Sorry), but I went with 1+1. This is one of those songs that I want to drunkenly sing to a handsome stranger in a bar, and see how it goes. It’s another one of those hopeful love songs.

‘Cause baby we ain’t got nothing without love
Darling you got enough for the both of us
So come on baby, make love to me”

6. Best Part (ft. H.E.R.) – Daniel Caesar

I first heard this song last year at my work’s choir concert. Two of my students sang it, and I straight up cried in the auditorium. This is one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard. Every time those two students showed up in my office at the same time, I’d force them to sing it, so I could cry again. Seriously, it’s beautiful! If I could find a man to horribly sing this with me at karaoke, I’d be content for the rest of my life!

If life is a movie
Oh you’re the best part, oh oh oh”

7. I’ll Never Love – Lady Gaga

THERE WAS NO WAY THAT THIS SONG WOULDN’T MAKE THE LIST! If you have not seen ‘A Star Is Born’, you are a gat damn fool and need to get your life together. I’ve never NOT cried when listening to this song. It always takes me back to when I saw the movie in theaters and ugly cried so loud that I embarrassed myself. Mocos y todo. Watch ‘A Star Is Born’ and you’ll get it.

“I’ll never love again”

8. Kiss Me – New Found Glory

I obviously needed to put a NFG song on my playlist because I’m still geeking out over their tour announcement. New Found Glory’s cover of Sixpence None the Richer’s “Kiss Me” is one of my absolute favorite covers of all time. Fun fact: apparently “Kiss me out of the bearded barley” means to give a girl head. Because of that alone, this song needed to be on the playlist.

9. Gone – Knuckle Puck

The last time I was going through it, this was my go-to song. Knuckle Puck is probably one of the most underrated bands out right now. I think I came across this song originally because someone on instagram had captioned their emo post with the lyrics below, and I felt that.

“But I’ll still think of you
On the fifth of June
Cause when I saw you I lost you all over again”

10. Lost in Japan (Remix) – Shawn Mendes and Zedd

The sole reason this song is on the playlist is because there are so many times that I’ve wanted to tweet: Shawn Mendes is really willing to fly to Japan to see a girl, and you won’t even drive up 281 to see me. Plus, it’s my go-to dance song when I’m alone.

“Do you got plans tonight?
I’m a couple hundred miles from Japan, and I
I was thinking I could fly to your hotel tonight
‘Cause I-I-I can’t get you off my mind”

11. Me Rehúso – Danny Ocean

So Danny Ocean wrote this song for his girlfriend for Valentine’s Day, and I wish a guy would write me a song for Valentine’s Day. It’s in Spanish, but it’s basically about him telling his girlfriend that he’ll come back for her and they’ll be together again soon. IRL, he def didn’t go back for her, but thankfully this song lives on forever!

“Baby no (baby no)
Me rehúso a darte un último beso así que guárdalo (guárdalo)
Para que la próxima vez te lo de haciéndolo (haciéndolo)
Haciéndotelo así, así, así
Así como te gusta baby”

12. Bitter Path – Close Your Eyes

It’s been almost 10 years since this album came out, and I’m lighting my candles every night that Close Your Eyes will do a 10 year anniversary tour. Until then, I’ll keep scream singing this song at the top of my lungs!

For far too long complacency has been my only friend
And left me with sleepless nights that never seem to end
My God, when did I become so heartless?
This can’t be what I’ve been living for”

13. Looking Up – Paramore

Not only did this song quickly become a favorite of mine because of the message, but also because it’s probably the most pop punk song that Paramore has. (Fight me about it.) When I was a teacher, I used to play this song during passing periods on the days that I needed a little extra motivation. There are many situations that you can insert this song into. For this playlist, I used it as another hopeful song.

Honestly, can you believe
We crossed the world while it’s asleep?
I’d never trade it in, ’cause I’ve always wanted this!
It’s not a dream anymore!
Oh. It’s not a dream anymore!
It’s worth fighting for”

14. Thank you, Next – Ariana Grande

There is no need for an explanation when it comes to this song. Thank you, next.

15. Monday – Cardi B

This was a last minute add in, but it felt right. This is the song that you and your single girls are going to angry sing in the club on Valentine’s Day. One of those “I’m going to wave my finger in some dude’s face and maybe even poke him in the chest a couple times while it plays” songs.

But nothing in this world that I like more than checks (Money)
All I really wanna see is the (Money)
I don’t really need the D, I need the (Money)
All a bad bitch need is the (Money)”
